Yes, Suncorp Home Insurance generally covers fixed units, such as split systems and ducted air conditioning.* We go over the details here.

Are air conditioners covered under:

Building insurance

Aircon units are covered for insured events under Suncorp Building Insurance, if they’re a permanent fixture of your home.*

What is a permanent fixture?

Basically, anything that you install or physically attach to your property. Permanent fixtures cannot be easily removed, and you typically don’t take them with you when you move house. Fixtures include your:

  • attached heating or cooling system,
  • ceiling fan,
  • shelving and kitchen units,
  • tv mounts,
  • built-in wardrobe,
  • solar panels and other fixed outdoor items,
  • and anything that’s permanently attached to your floor, walls or ceiling.

Landlord insurance

Suncorp Landlord Building and Contents Insurance covers both your permanent aircon systems, as well as portable cooling and heating systems for your tenant’s domestic or residential use. Read your PDS for limits and exclusions.

A Suncorp Landlord Insurance policy combines the cover of Home and Contents Insurance, with some extra coverage to protect against loss or damage caused by tenants.

This means, you’re covered for your landlord property (including permanent fixtures and fittings), as well as any contents at the property which you provide for the tenant’s use. You’re also covered if a tenant or guest damages the building or contents. In certain cases, you’ll even be covered for loss of rent in some instances.*

Renters insurance

Renters might consider contents only insurance. Under Suncorp Contents Insurance, portable aircons and heaters are covered, as well as your other belongings.*

Consider your sum insured

When you decide on a sum insured, consider the cost of repairing or replacing your air conditioning unit or system. This is also something to consider if you install an aircon after you take out cover.
