Planning ahead for Christmas
09 November 2022
From planning the menu to shopping for gifts — Christmas prep can be chaotic. Follow our handy guide to make sure that you and your guests enjoy Christmas to the fullest, and that your home is adequately covered throughout the season.
The big shop
Between gifts, decorations and food, there’s a lot to consider when it comes to your Christmas shopping. Streamline your shopping to make things easier.
Decorating
Try to buy all your décor from the same store. It’ll save time, and help you stay consistent.
Food and drinks
Stock up on ingredients that can be bought ahead of time. Try to get your friends and family to bring dishes to lessen the load.
Gifts
If you’re running out of time, try buying a few high-quality staples, such as PJs, chocolates and picture frames that you can gift to different family members.
Miscellaneous
Does your family have any Christmas traditions you need to shop for, like baking or crafts that you do together? Avoid disappointment by grabbing these necessities from your local supermarket or discount store ahead of time.
Grinch-proof your home
Christmas should be merry, but unfortunately there are a few Grinches out there. Figures from the 2016 NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research show that property crimes are 23% higher on Christmas Eve than any other day of the year.
The good news is, Home & Contents Insurance may help cover the gifts you have under the tree. Just be aware there may be dollar limits for specific items.
Other safety tips include:
- positioning your Christmas tree so that it can’t be seen from the street
- keeping presents out of sight until Christmas Eve or Christmas Day itself, and
- leaving the light on while you’re away, or purchasing a light that runs on a timer.
Help cover life’s mishaps
Christmas blunders are common, whether it’s a falling Christmas tree or an uncle toppling over after an eggnog too many! Help cover your home this Christmas by making sure your Home & Contents Insurance covers window/glass breakage and accidental damage.
You’ve got enough on your plate this Christmas. Make sure you’re prepared by getting adequate Home & Contents Insurance.
