Sharelle McMahon: My mum's been an incredible motivator and supporter for me throughout my career. I grew up in country Victoria and so I had to have a lot of support from my family in enabling me to play all the different sports I played but particularly netball
This really reminds me of the days that we just spent hours and hours in the car together.
Olive McMahon: There was a lot of travelling long drives to games to take Sharelle too on training a lot of driving down through the week to training but when you have your daughter in the car and you're sitting there it's great bonding time and we had, we had a lovely time
Sharelle McMahon: I feel really lucky that you were able to spend that time taking me around giving me the opportunities to to try and chase this dream.
I loved having family watch me and I just had so much joy playing netball and to have people like mum on the sidelines supporting me was an incredible part of the experience that I had
Olive McMahon: Check out those uniforms over here.
Sharelle McMahon: It's amazing isn't it.
My support team was incredibly important to me when I started playing more professionally and having that support on the sidelines when the pressure built being able to zero in on that support team and actually be able to see them there on the sidelines supporting me was amazing
Olive McMahon: I always think that the parents of a shooter are entitled to be more nervous than anybody else
Sharelle McMahon: Is that right?
Olive McMahon: Yeah
Sharelle McMahon: You might have some arguments with that with some other players
Olive McMahon: I think it's quite nerve-wracking to to be on the sidelines and watch but loved it loved every minute of it yeah
Sharelle McMahon: To be able to captain the Diamonds is something that I never dreamed of Mum as a little girl running around the backyard
Olive McMahon: Who would have thought
Sharelle McMahon: These big games to have people like you Mum I knew you were in my corner
Olive McMahon: Yes
Sharelle McMahon: My support team that I had behind me to know I always had that there if I needed it
Olive McMahon: Yeah
Sharelle McMahon: Enabled me to to just get out there and do it.
When I became a Mum my focus absolutely changed, as a professional athlete it can be a little bit selfish you really focused on how you can get the best out of yourself for your team and and to do the best you can and so that shifted immeasurably when I became a Mum and I wouldn't change it for the world
Ruby McMahon: I’m wearing the Vixen's ears.
Sharelle McMahon: You are wearing the Vixen's ears
Ruby McMahon: I like Mum and Nan cheering me on because I feel happy and loved
Sharelle McMahon: I can see the joy that running out on the court brings her and it's a really great way of us connecting
I love these photos because it just shows a bit of the different times that you've been around me when I’ve been playing netball
I learnt a lot from the support and the positive influence that my mum had on me and so I want to give that to Ruby as well and for me it's really just about her getting out on court and enjoying playing netball enjoying that team environment and feeling that she has absolutely every support that she could ever want from me.
