Introducing Build it Back BetterTM
A new feature for Suncorp Home Insurance and Australia-wide industry first.
What is a ‘home sum insured’?
Your sum insured is the amount listed on your policy as the most we’ll pay to repair or rebuild your home in the event of a successful claim. You can choose your sum insured, from a range offered by us, when you take out or renew your policy. If your sum insured is less than the amount it would cost to rebuild your home, you may have to pay additional costs out of pocket if your home is damaged or destroyed. You can estimate your rebuild cost with our Home Building Calculator.
How can Suncorp Insurance help Build it Back Better™?
If your home is damaged by an insured event and the assessed repair or rebuild costs are more than $50,000 or 10% of your sum insured (whichever is higher), you’ll be offered additional recommended resilience options to help protect against severe weather. Depending on your level of cover this could be up to $5,000 - $10,000. This feature is now available on all Suncorp Home & Contents and Building Insurance policies. Conditions apply. Read the PDS for full details. The Target Market Determination is also available.
Building a more resilient Australia. That’s the Suncorp Spirit.
What resilience enhancement options are available?
The options offered to you will depend on the types of insured risk your home faces and your level of cover. Below are just a few examples — if you make a claim and qualify to Build it Back Better™, an assessor will discuss with you the best options you can choose for your home.
Bushfire
- Metal gutters and gutter guards
- Roof sprinklers
- Ember protection for your roof cavity
- Best-practice materials like metal window and door frames
Storm/Cyclone
- Cyclone washers and shutters
- Cyclone-rated garage roller doors
- Metal window and door screens
Flood
- Flood-resistant materials
- Raising external services like hot water systems, air conditioning units and pool pumps
FYI, we can only offer these improvements when an authorised member of our supplier network is able to undertake the repair or rebuild work, and the home doesn’t already have the selected option. Conditions apply. For full details, refer to the PDS.
How much will Suncorp Insurance pay to Build it Back Better™?
The amount we’ll pay for resilience upgrades depends on your level of cover, and represents the net cost after deducting any government subsidy you may be entitled to.
