What is CTP Insurance?
Compulsory Third Party (CTP) Insurance is attached to the registration of your vehicle and provides protection to the at-fault driver against compensation claims from people injured in a motor vehicle accident.
Been injured in an accident? 3 things you should know
If you were injured in a motor vehicle accident in Queensland that was the fault of another vehicle owner or driver insured by Suncorp CTP Insurance, you can lodge a CTP claim directly with our Customer Concierge Team. They will explain the claims process and answer any questions you may have. You do not require legal representation to make a CTP claim. However, if you choose to be legally represented on a speculative (‘no win, no fee’) basis, your lawyer is allowed by law to charge up to 50% of your entitlement*, excluding applicable statutory refunds (e.g. to Medicare) and disbursements (e.g. fees for medical reports).
*Your entitlement means your damages plus that part of your legal costs payable by Suncorp.
If your claim is lodged and accepted, we cover treatment and rehabilitation expenses recommended by your registered medical practitioner, to help you recover from the injuries you sustained in the accident.
We aim to support you through your CTP claims journey and ensure you receive reasonable and appropriate compensation for your injuries.
If I'm the at-fault driver, what am I covered for?
CTP Insurance covers your liability for injuring others in an accident while you're behind the wheel. So, if anyone other than you is injured or dies — whether it's other drivers, passengers in your car or in other cars, pedestrians, cyclists or motorcyclists — CTP helps take care of their compensation claims.
If the injured person is unable to work, or needs medical treatment, your CTP insurer pays them out a lump sum. This is designed to help cover their medical and rehabilitation treatment, as well as any loss of income related to the accident.
If you've sustained life-changing, serious injuries in a motor vehicle accident, you may be eligible to receive support through the National Injury Insurance Scheme, Queensland (NIISQ) — regardless of who's at fault.
Important Notice: Suncorp Insurance has withdrawn Driver Protection Cover for eligible CTP policies commencing on or after 2 August 2023.
